Leadership Lessons from Dance – Don’t Underestimate the Follow

We don’t speak enough or hear enough about the important role of the follower. The follower is a leader in their own right and contributed to the success of the dance just as much as the leader does.

If the follower does not know how to maintain their frame, how to seek connect, how to mirror the tension in their arms (leverage or compression), how to engage their core, how to spot on turns, and how to style without interrupting the lead then the dance will not flow as smooth or be as beautiful to watch.

Every leader needs a strong follower to complete their partnership in dance and in life.
