Your Power of 2 worksheet takes two people’s CliftonStrengths® and lays them side by side, so you can quickly see where your perspectives align, where they might clash, and how you can work together more effectively. It’s a tool for turning friction into collaboration;and good partnerships into great ones.

What It’s For

Any two people who share work or life can use it. The Power of 2 is especially helpful for:

  • Two people who just don’t click – seeing how your perspectives differ helps you appreciate what the other person brings instead of being frustrated by it.
  • Two people who already work well together – understanding why the partnership works lets you make it even stronger.
  • A team member and their manager – building communication and a stronger working relationship.
  • Two people starting a project or venture – spotting potential clash points early and finding the openings for collaboration.
  • Partners in a marriage or relationship – understanding each other’s wiring at home, not just at work.

How It Works

The worksheet places one person’s top themes across the top and the other person’s themes down the side. Where those themes intersect, you get a conversation starter; a specific spot to explore how your strengths combine or collide.

  • Look at the intersections. Each meeting point of two themes is an invitation to talk: how do these two ways of operating play together?
  • Name the enhancers. Explore how the themes of one person can strengthen and support the themes of the other.
  • Name the friction. Just as honestly, consider where those same themes might rub against or aggravate each other. Naming it early takes the sting out of it later.
  • Then swap. Run it the other way too; your strengths affect them differently than theirs affect you.

Reading It Together

The real value isn’t in the page; it’s in the conversation it opens up:

  • Start with understanding. A general read of each other’s themes builds appreciation before you get into the harder spots.
  • Talk about the friction without blame. A theme clash isn’t a character flaw; it’s two valid ways of operating meeting at an angle. Framing it that way keeps the conversation safe.
  • Look for the opportunities. For each combination, ask what becomes possible when you use these strengths together that neither of you could do alone.

Reflect As You Work

As you go through the worksheet, consider:

  • Where do your strengths and theirs naturally reinforce each other?
  • Where might they grate; and how can you give each other grace in those spots?
  • What can the two of you accomplish together that plays to both sets of strengths?

Let’s Keep the Conversation Going
