Hard conversations, held with care, not avoidance.
Most of us are taught two options when something needs to be said: avoid it, or unload it. CAREfrontation™ offers a third way.
It’s an approach to difficult conversations that lets you address what matters directly and with care, so issues get named before they fester, and relationships get stronger instead of strained.
What sets CAREfrontation™ apart from other “candor” frameworks is its intercultural-fluency layer. How directly we speak, how much emotion we show, what “respectful” even sounds like, these aren’t universal.
They’re shaped by culture, upbringing, and lived experience. CAREfrontation™ teaches leaders to communicate across those differences, not over them.

Why It Matters
Avoided conversations don’t disappear. They show up later as resentment, turnover, broken trust, and teams that have quietly stopped saying what they think. The cost of not having the conversation is almost always higher than the discomfort of having it.
But “just be direct” is incomplete advice. Directness that ignores how the other person is wired, how they process disagreement, how they show or restrain emotion, what they need to feel respected, often backfires. CAREfrontation™ gives leaders a way to be both honest and attuned, so the message actually lands.
Grounded in Research
CAREfrontation™ is Dr. Sobers’ synthesis of field-tested communication and intercultural research into one usable approach for leaders. It integrates established, research-based tools, including the Intercultural Conflict Styles framework (Hammer), Nonviolent Communication (Rosenberg), and perspective-checking and feedback practices used in leadership development—woven together through an intercultural-fluency lens.
Dr. Sobers brings this work as a Gallup-Certified CliftonStrengths Coach, a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory®, and a certified user of Intercultural Conflict Styles®.
Bring CAREfrontation™ to Your Team
CAREfrontation™ is available as an interactive workshop, a multi-session series, or a keynote, adaptable to your team’s size and needs. Participants leave with language they can use the same day: a way to name what’s hard, across differences, without blame or avoidance.
Ideal for: leadership teams, managers and supervisors, cross-cultural and distributed teams, and any group where trust depends on people being able to say what’s true.
CAREfrontation™ is a signature framework of Dr. Shauna T. Sobers. The Intercultural Conflict Styles® model and Intercultural Development Inventory® are the work of Dr. Mitchell R. Hammer; Nonviolent Communication is the work of Dr. Marshall B. Rosenberg.
